How to Apply for a U.S. Tourist Visa (B-2) - For Colombian Citizens
1. Check Visa Requirements
- Colombian citizens require a visa to visit the U.S. for tourism.
- Ensure your Colombian passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay.
2. Complete the DS-160 Form (Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application)
- Visit ceac.state.gov/ceac.
- Fill out the DS-160 form in English.
- Upload a recent passport-style photo (per U.S. visa photo requirements).
- After submission, print the DS-160 confirmation page with the barcode.
3. Pay the Visa Application Fee
- The fee for a B-2 visa is $185 USD (non-refundable).
- Pay through authorized banks or online via the official platform.
- Keep your payment receipt for the interview.
4. Schedule Appointments (Two Required)
a). VAC Appointment (Visa Application Center)
- For fingerprints and a digital photo.
- Bring:
- Passport
- DS-160 confirmation
- Visa fee payment receipt
b). Embassy/Consulate Interview
- Schedule at the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá or the Consulate in Medellín.
- Book online at ais.usvisa-info.com.
5. Prepare Documents for the Interview
- Valid passport
- DS-160 confirmation page
- Visa fee payment receipt
- Interview appointment confirmation
- 1 passport-sized photo (if required)
- Supporting documents (optional but recommended):
- Proof of financial stability (bank statements, job letter, property deeds)
- Proof of ties to Colombia (family, job, education)
- Travel itinerary (if available)
- Previous U.S. visas (if any)
6. Attend the VAC Appointment
- Visit the Visa Application Center for biometrics.
- No interview is conducted here—only fingerprints and photo.
7. Attend the Embassy/Consulate Interview
- Arrive early with all required documents.
- Be prepared to answer questions about:
- Purpose of your visit
- Duration of stay
- Financial situation
- Ties to Colombia
- The consular officer will inform you if your visa is approved, denied, or needs further processing.
8. Wait for Visa Processing
- If approved, your passport with the visa will be delivered to your chosen pickup location or sent by mail.

9. Receive Your Passport with Visa
- Verify all information on the visa is accurate.
- You’re now ready to travel to the U.S. within the visa’s validity period.
